Volume 3 Issue 12
Olympia, WA: 11-17-95
In another environmental justice related report, the Washington Department
of Ecology (DEC) has found that low income communities in the state of
Washington are more likely than other communities to have a hazardous waste
site nearby. A health study is planned if funds become available. Longtime
readers may recall that some studies claim that hazardous waste facilities
seek out low income neighborhoods (the current Administration's Environmental
Justice policy seems based upon this assumption) while a number of studies
have demonstrated that these areas in question become low income/minority
areas after the fact (CWMCN Volume 2, Nos. 4 & 8).
